“I can see the sea!”

Certainly most rooms at these two Cornish hotels can adopt this fond phrase when approaching their coastal location.

First impressions of the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa as you drive in could mark it down as a slightly dated 50’s creation.

It could almost be a monochrome memory of that age by its initial appearance.

However, the second impression once inside is somewhat a breath of fresh Cornish air. With the sunlight pouring into the colourful glazed and coastal trendy interior.

Here the golden beach and azure westerly sea views come into full panchromatic focus.

Sitting in a prominent cliff-top position overlooking Mawgan Porth beach this dog and family friendly hotel has views that would seduce even the most avid of fans of the Costas.

Staycation phrase could have been created for such places.

On a delightful sunny day this stay at home this hotel offers easy access to a charming idyllic Cornish cove and acres of sand for any family to enjoy.

Surfing and body boarding in the crashing waves of the Atlantic surf rolling into the cove.

A former Prime Minister (David Cameron) may have chosen nearby Polzeath but this would have been just as nice too!

With a number of celebrities moving in around the area it has picked up the name Hollywood by the Sea! Which is where the idea came to me about being so close to the counties major commercial airport.

A potential travel idea but perhaps not the greenest of travel options. However, certainly the quickest. Make a flying visit!

The hotel and cove is situated from a really well connected local airport just a few miles away.

I could easily see guests flying in from all over the UK and Ireland plus even European connections and internationally as well.

Making that short ride (less than 3 miles) from Cornwall Airport and a long weekend or week on or around the North Cornwall beach at Mawgan Porth!

Fly in direct to Cornwall Airport Newquay and the Bedruthan Hotel And The Scarlet.

With flights from places like Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, Belfast, even Dusseldorf, Copenhagen and Guernsey.

Depending on flight frequency of course. If I had an airport close by I would pop on a plane and do just that!

I have to drive 3 hours to get there myself. But if living conveniently to one of those destinations it could make a great UK inbound or  Cornish staycation holiday option?

The second hotel is a sister hotel. This is the grown up version of the Bedruthan…The Scarlet has a more sophisticated design and styling.

The Scarlet Hotel.

Grown up as it is, an adults only hotel.

Like the Bedruthan it has a whole host of rooms with magnificent sea views too. Though it is slightly lower down the cliff. Even then with some rooms that initially do not appear to have them.

These are called ‘Unique’ rooms. Well they have cunningly built a pod with stairs and lounge over each of them so those guests can get that vital seaside vista to watch western sunsets from.

Many numerous and colourful art works are displayed around both the properties.

Art in many styles can be found around both the Bedruthan  and The Scarlet.

Here at, The Scarlet no play or craft rooms and soft styled play areas.

Although, perhaps some adults would get a kick out of them, if they did?

But plenty of lounges and relaxing areas throughout.

Here at Scarlet hot tubs in the garden and a cedar wood barrel sauna pod offers a healthy back to nature experience. Also, the unheated natural fresh water pool for those that need or desire that cold water shock dip.

Woven willow seating pods scattered around the less than formal gardens are nice and quiet place to take in the nature and cove views. Part of the idea is in letting nature and wildlife endure rather than having neatly trimmed lawns.

Overall, the service from the many younger staff members was excellent. The reception and waiting teams at both hotels were attentive and very helpful.

Dining at The Scarlet Hotel.

Eating at the Bedruthan we opted for the fine dining option in their Ogo restaurant. Which used many good and local sourced ingredients with some of the salads coming direct from the hotel gardens.

More casual dining can be had in their Wild Cafe.

Foot Long Cheese Straws!

The foot long cheese straws served up in their bakery were a great accompaniment to the coffee on the terrace overlooking the cove on our arrival.

There are spas at both hotels with numerous treatment packages often on offer online. The Bedruthan has indoor and exteriors pools.

And as well as the cleansed chilly natural living reed bed outdoor pool, The Scarlet has an indoor pool which uses bromine rather than chlorine for it’s cleansing.

Linked by a footpath both hotels are a short walk down the cliff path to the beach and the extensive golden sands of Mawgan Porth.

With both hotels dog friendly and one better for families and the other aimed at adults only. These two sister hotels provide an excellent Cornish west coast experience with or without the whole family.

Flying in could be a convenient  option for those lucky enough to be close to a regional or international

The Rhine Tower (The Rheinturm)  Dusseldorf, Germany.

Even from places like Dusseldorf in Germany?

And on arrival play that game with your travel companion on the short drive into Mawgan Porth.
